Multi-unit dwellings are residential buildings with shared walls or living spaces, including apartment buildings, condos, townhouses, and seniors or retirement homes. In 2015, 44% (40.7%, 50.4%
) of Simcoe Muskoka (18+) adults strongly supported banning smoking anywhere inside a multi-unit dwelling compared to only 15% (11.5%, 17.8%
) that strongly opposed a ban. Support for banning smoking inside multi-unit dwellings has not changed significantly since 2012.
Support for banning smoking inside multi-unit dwellings (MUDs) was also high among non-smoking residents of MUDs. From 2011 to 2015 (combined), 50% (44.4%, 55.5%) of non-smoking Simcoe Muskoka (18+) residents living inside MUDs strongly supported a smoking ban compared to only 16% (12.2%, 20.6%) that strongly oppose a ban. However, the majority (65% (53.7%, 74.8%)) of non-smoking MUD residents were opposed to a smoking ban.
