Women aged 25-29 years have the highest pregnancy rates of all age groups in Simcoe Muskoka (129.9 pregnancies/1,000 women ages 25-29 for 2000 to 2011combined), followed by women aged 30-34 (111.8 pregnancies/1,000 women ages 30-34 for 2000 to 2011combined) and then women 20-24 years old (84.9 pregnancies/1,000 women ages 20-24 for 2000 to 2011combined).
Increases in pregnancy rates have occurred among mothers 30 to 39 years old.
Women in the age groups with the highest pregnancy rates tend to have the highest percentages of pregnancies ending in live births. For 2000 to 2011 combined, 87.9% of all pregnancies among 30 to 34 year old mothers ended in a live birth, while 81.0% ended in a live birth for mothers 25 to 29 years of age.
The teen pregnancy rate in Simcoe Muskoka has decreased since 2000. The Simcoe Muskoka rate has been following the same trend as the Ontario rate. In 2011, there were 465 teen pregnancies in Simcoe Muskoka, for a rate of 25.9 per 1,000 women 15-19. Of these pregnancies, 40% ended in a live birth while 58% ended in a therapeutic abortion.
