Injury-Related Deaths

Injuries are the leading cause of death for people ages one to 45 in Simcoe Muskoka and in Ontario. 

The figure below shows the type of injuries that caused the most deaths in all age groups in Simcoe Muskoka between 2000 and 2004. Motor vehicle collisions (24.4%) are the leading cause of injury-related deaths, followed by suicide (19.2%) and falls (17.8%).  The "other" category (23.3%) includes injury-related deaths that do not fit into any of the categories listed.  This includes deaths due to other transport accidents (e.g. railway vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians not struck by a motor vehicle), being struck by or against an object or another person, being bitten or struck by an animal, and accidental injuries from machinery or firearms.  Death data come from the Vital Statistics database.
