Child Population CountIn 2006, children ages 0 to 9 years account for 11.3% of the population in Simcoe Muskoka for a total of 54,200 children. As expected, high numbers of children live in the cities with the greatest overall populations — Barrie (17,200) and Orillia (3,080). Large populations of children also live in the southern municipalities of New Tecumseth, Bradford West Gwillimbury and Innisfil. In general, residents in these areas are younger, include more families with children and are known to commute outside Simcoe Muskoka for work purposes. The further north one travels in Simcoe Muskoka, the smaller the child population (see map). By 2031, the population of 0- to 9-year-olds in Simcoe Muskoka is projected to reach nearly 70,000, an increase of 28% from 2006. Click on map image to download full pdf version.
