Mother TongueAccording to the 2006 Census, the majority (89%) of people living in the service area of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported English as their mother tongue, almost the same as the 2001 rate (90%), and higher than the 2006 provincal rate (70%). Another 3% of the population reported French as their mother tongue while 8% reported a non-official language as their mother tongue. The top non-official languages included German (18%), Italian (12%), Polish (8%), Dutch (8%), and Portuguese (8%).
